Carson Whisenhunt On The Rehab Trail
3 months agoSan Francisco Giants left-handed pitching prospect Carson Whisenhunt (foot), who was placed on the seven-day minor-league injured list on July 24 with a sore foot, began a rehab assignment with Single-A San Joe on Aug. 13, striking out six over five scoreless innings in his first two starts. The 23-year-old, who is considered by MLB Pipeline to be the team's No. 4 prospect, has struggled in his first year with Triple-A Sacramento, posting a 5.84 ERA in 19 starts, although he does have 102 strikeouts in 77 innings. He made his last start for the River Cats on July 13 and gave up three runs over four innings with seven strikeouts. Whisenhunt could rejoin Sacramento's starting rotation soon to close out the year. The 6-foot-3, 209-pounder's plus-plus changeup helps him get a lot of swings and misses, but he's going to need to show better command and control if he's going to have extended success in what is expected to be his major-league debut in 2025.
