Carson Wentz Becoming More Comfortable In Pocket
5 years agoPhiladelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz hasn't been using his legs as much this summer, which shows a more patient approach from a pocket perspective. Wentz previously ranked 26th out of 33 quarterbacks in average time spent in the pocket per pass (2.77 seconds), according to ESPN Stats and Information. He's been contacted 243 times since 2016, which is the sixth most of any QB. Wentz has mastered head coach Doug Pederson's system, "operating really quickly," according to offensive coordinator Mike Groh. "He's getting to the line of scrimmage, he's seeing things fast, he's redirecting protection, going through his progressions, [the] ball is coming out of his hand quicker," Pederson said. Due to recent injury-plagued seasons, Wentz also hired a nutritionist and is on a gluten-free diet. If Wentz can avoid injuries that set him back the last two seasons, he should be a strong QB1 by season's end. He has top-five potential in a great Week 1 matchup against the Redskins at home.
