6 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Carlos Martinez (shoulder) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session on Monday, just the second time he's done so since he was shut down in spring training with shoulder weakness. "Everything checked out great," manager Mike Shildt said. "He tried to mix in four-seam [fastballs] and two-seam. He tried to mix in some spin and off-speed pitches and felt great.” Martinez will next throw live batting practice, likely a the team's spring training complex. His return is a ways off, but Martinez continues to improve. It's unclear if he'll return as a starter or reliever, however, which puts his fantasy value in doubt.
