Carlos Martinez Suspended 85 Games
2 years agoFree-agent right-hander Carlos Martinez has been suspended for 85 games, retroactive to June 19, for violating the league's joint domestic-violence, sexual-assault and child-abuse policy. It's been a bad year for Martinez, as he was also handed an 80-game suspension on May 27 for performance-enhancing drugs. The 30-year-old Dominican is unlikely to pitch in the big leagues again after these two suspensions. Martinez spent all nine of his major league seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, being named to the All-Star team twice, in 2015 and 2017. In 2015, he went 14-7 with a 3.01 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 184 strikeouts and 63 walks in 179 2/3 innings over 31 outings (29 starts). C-Mart was with the Boston Red Sox earlier this year on a minor league deal before he was released.
