Carlos Martinez Strikes Out Three in Tuesday's Save
5 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals closer Carlos Martinez picked up his 11th save of the season on Tuesday, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings to wrap up a 2-1 Cardinals win. Martinez retired all four batters he faced, striking out three of them. He came in for the last out of the eighth before pitching a perfect ninth. Martinez threw just 15 pitches and lowered his ERA to 3.45. He should retain a significant role in the St. Louis bullpen, but there's a chance he's demoted to a setup role if the team can add an impact closer before Wednesday's deadline.
