Carlos Martinez Saves Saturday's Game
5 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals closer Carlos Martinez saved his 23rd game of the season on Saturday, locking down a 9-8 win over the Cubs. Martinez tossed a scoreless inning, walking a batter and striking out two. He needed just 16 pitches to deliver a win for the Cardinals. Martinez hasn't been perfect in his first season as a closer, but 23 saves and a 3.38 ERA are both solid stats.
