Cardinals Not Babying Jordan Hicks
5 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals closer Jordan Hicks was available on Sunday but he remained in the bullpen as insurance for a bullpen that didn't have any other available arms, according to manager Mike Shildt. Carlos Martinez pitched two scoreless innings to pick up his second save of the season, and Hicks completed the 10-day road trip with just two outings (both ended in saves). Hicks has thrown only 3 1/3 innings so far in June. The 22-year-old is in his first full season as the closer, but the Cardinals aren't babying him. He has 14 saves in 25 appearances this year and one-fifth of those appearances have come on five days of rest or more.
