Cardinals Excited About Alex Reyes
6 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals are excited about the potential of pitcher Alex Reyes as he enters the 2019 season fully healthy. The right-hander is ranked as the team's top prospect for the fourth straight year after the 24-year-old's career was interrupted by a pair of arm surgeries over the last few seasons. Reyes will open the season in the bullpen, which hurts his fantasy value, but he could finish it in the rotation if everything works out. Starter Adam Wainwright referred to Reyes as a "phenom." His upside is ridiculous, but Reyes has thrown four major league innings since 2016, so it's uncertain how his body will respond to pitching regularly. He'll be a consideration for multiple innings or as a closer out of the bullpen. Reyes is likely to be on an innings cap this year as well, but he's still worth a speculative add late in mixed league drafts.
