Cam Newton Showing Improvement Already
6 years agoCarolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (shoulder) is already showing marked improvement after undergoing a minimally invasive arthroscopic right shoulder surgery after the season ended. “I was there on one of his recovery days when (Newton) was working out with (head athletic trainer) Ryan Vermillion,” head coach Ron Rivera said. ”And one of the things he did say was that he has gotten a lot of range of motion back. So that was exciting to hear.” Doctors cleared out excess scar tissue that was affecting the range of motion in his arm, but they didn't find anything else wrong during the surgery. Newton grinded through the season and lacked zip on his throws because of his shoulder. The hope is that he'll be back to normal next year, but the fact remains it's the second straight offseason he's had right shoulder surgery. He still has high-end QB1 upside because of his legs, but Newton is more of a risk now. The coaching staff is optimistic he'll be fully recovered by training camp, and he could even work out with the team in the spring.
