Cam Newton Being Shut Down
6 years agoThe Carolina Panthers are expected to shut quarterback Cam Newton (shoulder) down for the final two games of the season now that they are out of the playoff hunt, according to sources. Backup Taylor Heinicke is expected to start in Week 16 against the Falcons. Newton isn't practicing on Wednesday. Newton's right shoulder got progressively worse as the season wore on, and there's a good chance he'll need offseason surgery for the second straight year, which will put his fantasy value in question going into 2019. All of Carolina's offensive weapons need to be downgraded, including stud running back Christian McCaffrey. However, McCaffrey should still be treated as an RB1 in a great matchup. Expect Heinicke to lean on his running back most of the game.
