Caleb Sturgis, Roberto Aguayo In Spirited Kicking Battle
6 years agoLos Angeles Chargers place kickers Caleb Sturgis and Roberto Aguayo have been battling it out heading into the second preseason game this week. During full team drills on Wednesday, Sturgis made all seven of his field goal attempts with a long of 53 yards, while Aguayo made four of seven with two misses from 50-plus yards. The Bolts used four kickers in 2017 and made an NFL-worst 67 percent of their attempts. “It’s a long battle. … We’ll see how it plays out in games,” head coach Anthony Lynn said. “What a player does in games, to me, is what I evaluate the most.” Sturgis suffered a hip injury last year for the Eagles and didn't play, but Lynn said he looks fully healed from the injury. Aguayo struggled in his only season with the Bucs, missing nine of 31 attempts. Sturgis might have a leg up if he's healthy, but it'll all come down to who performs in preseason games. Whoever wins this job should be attractive to fantasy owners in an offense that could be quite good if they stay healthy.
