Cal Quantrill Almost Perfect In Latest Tune-Up
5 years agoSan Diego Padres pitcher Cal Quantrill was almost perfect in a three-inning start Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs. Facing a big league lineup, Quantrill’s only baserunner was yielded via error as he struck out three. The 25-year-old is battling with fellow starter Joey Lucchesi for the final rotation slot and has answered the pressure, owning a clean 1.29 ERA through seven spring frames. A former top prospect, Quantrill pitched well last season but faltered in the final months, closing with a 5.16 ERA in 103 innings. Even without a defined role, he should have a significant role in 2020. Currently sitting at a 600-plus ADP, Quantrill is a clear fantasy steal if he earns a starting gig.
