Bucs Have Talked O.J. Howard Trade With Washington
5 years agoThe Tampa Bay Buccaneers were in discussions to trade tight end O.J. Howard two months ago to the Washington Redskins in exchange for offensive tackle Trent Williams, but talks fell through, according to a source. General manager Jason Licht said at the NFL combine in February that the team has "plans for O.J. being in our offense this year," but with Rob Gronkowski and Cameron Brate on roster, the Bucs will continue to listen to offers on Howard. Tampa has until May 5 to decide if they'll pick up Howard's fifth-year option for 2021. Tampa could use Gronk and Howard in two-tight end sets with Brate being the big loser, but head coach Bruce Arians historically hasn't used tight ends all that much in the passing game. That could change with Tom Brady in town, but the bottom line is that Howard won't be attractive in fantasy as anything more than a low-end TE2 if he remains with the Buccaneers.
