Bryan Shaw, Heath Hembree Sign With Cleveland
4 years agoThe Cleveland Indians signed free-agent relief pitchers Bryan Shaw and Heath Hembree to a minor league deals on Wednesday. Hembree will make $1.25 million plus incentives if he's in the major leagues. Reliever DJ Johnson was also signed. Shaw will return to the Tribe and will receive an invite to spring training. All three relievers are right-handed. Shaw, 33, had a 3.11 ERA, 3.45 FIP and struck out 333 hitters in 358 2/3 innings in five seasons with the Indians and mostly served as a setup arm in the bullpen. He led the league in appearances three times from 2014-17. But Shaw has struggled the last two years with Colorado and Seattle. Hembree, 32, allowed 19 runs in 19 innings with Boston and Philadelphia last season. The three relievers will be battling for a spot in Cleveland's 'pen this spring.
