Bryan Abreu, Andre Scrubb Earn Early Praise
4 years agoHouston Astros pitchers Bryan Abreu and Andre Scrubb have earned early praise from pitching coach Brent Strom in spring training. Abreu made the roster for the American League Championship Series in 2019 but showed up out of shape last year and didn't pitch well. Scrubb took advantage of his opportunity in the shortened 2020 season and posted a 1.90 ERA in 20 games in his major league debut. Strom said that Scrubb is in great shape physically and has worked a slider into his repertoire. He was acquired in a July 2019 trade that sent Tyler White to the Dodgers, and Scrubb led the Astros in innings pitched out of the bullpen last year. Abreu was the team's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, last year but allowed 10 of 20 batters to reach base (seven walks, two hit-by-pitches and one base hit) in just 3 1/3 innings.
