Browns Sign Morgan Burnett, Garrett Gilbert
6 years agoThe Cleveland Browns signed free-agent safety Morgan Burnett and quarterback Garrett Gilbert to undisclosed deals on Friday. Burnett was released by the Steelers on Monday after just one season and wants to play safety again after being used as a dime linebacker in Pittsburgh. Burnett will have a chance to win a starting job in 2019. He played in just 11 games in 2018 due to a groin injury and had 30 tackles and six pass breakups. Gilbert played for the Orlando Apollos of the now-defunct Alliance of American Football and was one of the best quarterbacks in the short-lived league, throwing for a league-high 2,152 yards and 13 touchdowns. He'll be the third QB on the depth chart for Cleveland behind Baker Mayfield and Drew Stanton.
