Broncos Might Seek Veteran Backup
6 years agoThe Denver Broncos might seek to add a veteran backup quarterback if general manager John Elway doesn't feel that quarterback Chad Kelly can win games if Case Keenum is injured. “I’m not going to tell you we’re definitely going to stand pat, but I’m not telling you we’re going (in) that direction, either,” Elway told 103.5 The Fox radio station in Denver. Kelly was promoted to the backup role after Paxton Lynch threw for just 24 yards over seven series with the second unit in the first preseason game. Kelly had two touchdowns against the Vikings. Kelly, whose uncle is former Bills QB Jim Kelly, has had a solid offseason and has consistently outplayed Lynch, a former first-round pick. Keenum is an upgrade over the sad QB carousel that Denver dealt with last year, but he's not much more than a mediocre QB2 option. Lynch has developed the label of draft bust at this point and is no longer a must-hold in dynasty leagues.
