Braxton Garrett Unlikely To Be On Opening Day Roster
8 months agoMiami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said that left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) is unlikely to be on the Opening Day roster. Garrett has been dealing with left-shoulder soreness since early in camp. He's throwing a bullpen session in camp on Tuesday, but he still hasn't progressed to throwing live batting practice against hitters. The 26-year-old southpaw is likely to begin the year on the injured list, but barring another setback, he could make his season debut in April. With Garrett not expected to be ready, it will likely open the door for fellow lefty A.J. Puk to open the year in Miami's rotation. Despite his injury, Garrett is worth stashing to begin the year in deep-mixed fantasy leagues. In a career-high 159 2/3 innings pitched in 2023, he went 9-7 with a 3.66 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with only 29 walks and 156 K's for the Fish.
