Brandon Nimmo 2025 Outlook: Middling Power and Plantar Fasciitis Unappealing in Fantasy
2 days agoOnce known as an OBP machine, Brandon Nimmo has sold out for power in recent seasons. He hit .224/.327/.399 with 23 homers and 15 steals across 663 PAs in 2024. Nimmo's .267 BABIP was partially responsible for the disappointing showing, but his approach shouldn't be ignored. He lifted the ball more often with a 38% FB% against a career rate of 34.7%. He was also more aggressive than ever, posting a career-worst 24% chase rate. This would be fine if Nimmo unlocked plus power, but his 111.5 mph max exit velocity, 94.5 mph average airborne exit velocity, and 9.1% rate of Brls/BBE are all middling. The 32-year-old is projected as New York's cleanup hitter, but Nimmo lacks the raw power to fill that role on a contender. Worse, Nimmo looked hobbled during the Mets postseason run and revealed he had been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in May and aggravated it during the NLDS. Plantar fasciitis will hinder Nimmo for the rest of his career and nobody knows what that looks like yet. He's best avoided at his ADP of 166.96.
