Brad Keller Shut Down
5 years agoKansas City Royals starting pitcher Brad Keller has been shut down for the rest of the season, according to manager Ned Yost. The 24-year-old won't make another start due to the increased volume of innings he's thrown in his first full year as a starter and due to what Yost called "arm fatigue." Keller made 28 starts and threw 165 1/3 innings in 2019, with his previous high in innings in a season at 140 1/3 frames. He went 7-14 this year with a 4.19 ERA, .247 opponents' average, 1.35 WHIP, 122 strikeouts and 70 walks. Keller went only 1 1/3 innings in a rough outing against the A's in his last start on Monday. While he's not that attractive on a rebuilding Royals club, Keller will still have deep mixed and AL-only appeal in 2020.
