Blue Jays Reach Agreement With Tyler Chatwood
4 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays reached an agreement with right-hander Tyler Chatwood on a one-year, $3 million contract on Monday, according to a source. Chatwood will have the opportunity to earn another $2.5 million in incentives, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi. The 31-year-old is entering his 10th big league season and has played with the Angels, Rockies and Cubs. Spending the last three years with Chicago, Chatwood has a 4.70 ERA over 67 outings (30 starts) with the Cubbies. He finished with a 5.30 ERA and a career-high 12.1 K/9 over 18 2/3 innings (five starts) in the shortened 2020 season. Toronto is expected to use him out of the bullpen, which will kill most of his fantasy appeal. Chatwood has elite spin rates on his fastball and curveball, but he's averaged 4.7 walks per nine innings in his career, making him an inconsistent streamer when he's in the rotation.
