5 years agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Blake Snell said the risk of returning to play in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic is "just not worth it," at least not for significantly less than his original $7 million salary for this season. "Y’all gotta understand, man, for me to go, for me to take a pay cut is not happening, because the risk is through the roof. It’s a shorter season, less pay. I gotta get my money," Snell said. The left-hander knows his statement will be viewed as greedy, but his concerns are more rooted in health and safety issues. Snell is worried about the long-term risks of being infected and is preparing for the possibility of not playing again until 2020. Snell probably isn't the only player that feels this way, and the financial aspect of returning to play baseball this year might be the sticking point of whether a season actually happens in 2020.
