Austin Hays Out With Rib Injury
6 months agoBaltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays (ribs) will take a seat on the bench on Friday with the team facing the Tampa Bay Rays. Hays will sit this one out after getting hit by a pitch in his ribs in Thursday's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. It doesn't appear to be a serious ailment, so fantasy managers in deeper leagues should consider the 28-year-old to be day-to-day. It's bad timing for Hays, who has recently gotten more run in the starting lineup with his bat awakening. Since May 31, he's gone 6-for-16 (.375) with two home runs, two doubles and four RBI. On the year, though, he's barely above the Mendoza Line with two homers and nine RBI in just 89 at-bats. Rookie Colton Cowser is in left field and is batting seventh on Friday, with the struggling Cedric Mullins starting in center and batting eighth against Rays right-hander Aaron Civale. UPDATE: X-rays on Hays' ribs came back negative and he's dealing with bruised ribs.
