Astros, Blue Jays Interested In Alex Colome
4 years agoFree-agent relief pitcher Alex Colome is drawing interest from the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays, among other teams, according to sources. The 32-year-old right-hander had a nice 2.27 ERA -- the third-lowest in baseball among relievers who saved 30-plus games in the last two seasons -- after signing in 2019 as the White Sox's primary ninth-inning arm. The Astros and Blue Jays have also been in on free-agent southpaw Brad Hand. Colome has a 2.62 ERA with 138 saves since the start of the 2016 season. He gave up only two earned runs over 22 1/3 innings (0.81 ERA) last year. Toronto currently has Jordan Romano penciled in as their closer, while Houston has Ryan Pressly in the role. Given Colome's experience, he'd be the favorite for ninth-inning duties with both the Astros or Blue Jays.
