A's Unlikely To Trade For Trevor Story
3 years agoOakland Athletics shortstop Elvis Andrus has struggled offensively this year, but the A's are unlikely to pursue Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, who is eligible for free agency after this season. "An impact outfield bat may be a greater priority," Passan writes. A's ownership is also unlikely to take on all of Story's remaining salary. Story is earning $17.5 million in 2021 and will be owed nearly $6 million after the trade deadline. The Rockies might be willing to kick in more cash to receive better prospects, but they will likely find a suitor that will take on all of Story's remaining salary. The 28-year-old has been a disappointment this year with a .255/.328/.439 slash line, nine home runs, 36 RBI and 14 stolen bases, but he remains one of the premier fantasy shortstops in the game. Story has been especially bad away from Coors Field this year, so a trade to Oakland would certainly not be the best landing spot.
