A's Sign Armando Alvarez, Drew Lugbauer
12 months agoThe Oakland Athletics signed corner infielders Armando Alvarez and Drew Lugbauer to minor-league deals on Wednesday that includes non-roster invitations to major-league spring training next year. Alvarez, 29, hit an impressive .308 (80-for-260) with 18 home runs, 56 RBI, eight steals and 51 runs scored in 74 games for Triple-A Sacramento in the San Francisco Giants organization in 2023. He has the ability to play both third base and first base. Lugbauer, 27, is a left-handed-hitting first baseman was even more impressive in the minors with the Atlanta Braves last season, clubbing 25 home runs and driving in 73 runs in 94 games with Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett. Both players will be fighting to get to the big leagues for the first time in their careers with the rebuilding A's in 2024.
