2 years agoThe Oakland Athletics agreed to deals with right-hander Luis Morales and outfield prospect Darling Fernandez on Sunday. Morales (No. 5) and Fernandez (No. 40) are on MLB.com's top-50 international prospects list. Morales agreed to a $3 million deal, while Fernandez's deal was worth $750,000. Morales set a Cuban record for strikeouts (161) in 82 2/3 innings between 2019 and 2020. He projects to be a top-of-the-rotation pitcher with a fastball that sits between 94-97 mph. Fernandez is a left-handed-hitting outfielder from the Dominican Republic and has the potential to be a plus hitter with developing power.
