Antonio Gibson 2022 NFL Player Outlook: Washington's Early-Down Back
2 years agoWashington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson dealt with hip and toe injuries in 2021, yet he was able to play 16 games and ended the season as the RB10 in 0.5 PPR scoring. He rushed for 1,037 yards on 258 attempts and seven touchdowns, adding 42 catches for 294 yards and three scores over 16 games in 2022. However, the 24-year-old's situation has drastically changed over the past nine months. At one point in the offseason, Gibson was on his way to a featured role in 2022. However, the Washington Commanders re-signed J.D. McKissic and spent a third-round pick on Brian Robinson, pushing Gibson into a potential running back by committee. In recent news, Robinson has no timeline for a return after being shot twice on August 29 in an armed robbery attempt in Washington, D.C. He was recently released from the hospital and is officially on the Commanders' 53-man roster. It is yet to be determined if the 23-year-old will play in 2022. If Robinson returns this season, he was set to open the season as the primary early-down ball-carrier, but that role should now go to Gibson, with McKissic working on passing downs. Gibson has an ADP of 77.92 and is ranked 21st in the latest Rotoballer rankings.
