Anthony Bass Agrees With Marlins
4 years agoFree-agent right-hander Anthony Bass agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Miami Marlins on Friday and is expected to compete for the closer role in 2021. The reliever led the Toronto Blue Jays with seven saves in the shortened 2020 season when closer Ken Giles was injured, going 2-3 with a 3.51 ERA in 26 games. Bass has a 4.32 career ERA with 15 saves in nine seasons in the big leagues while pitching for six different teams. The 33-year-old will have primary competition for the ninth-inning role in the form of Yimi Garcia, but the Fish could still bring in more bullpen help before spring training. But if Bass is the Marlins closer or part of a committee approach to the ninth inning, he'll have late-round appeal as a low-end fantasy fireman.
