Angels Add Jesse Chavez To Bullpen Mix
4 years agoThe Los Angeles Angels signed free-agent relief pitcher Jesse Chavez to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training on Friday. The 37-year-old veteran posted a 5.35 ERA for the Angels back in 2017 and has spent the last two seasons with the Texas Rangers, recording a 6.88 ERA in 17 innings in relief in 2020. The right-hander also pitched for manager Joe Maddon in 2018 with the Cubs, when he had a 1.15 ERA in 39 relief innings. While he won't be at all fantasy relevant if he makes the big-league club out of camp, Chavez can provide multiple innings out of the bullpen alongside Felix Pena, Jaime Barria, Junior Guerra, Aaron Slegers and Dillon Peters. Chavez has a 4.52 career ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 481 outings (79 starts) over 933 innings in 13 major league seasons.
