Andrew Chafin Gets Two-Year Deal From Detroit
3 years agoFree-agent relief pitcher Andrew Chafin agreed to a two-year, $13 million deal with the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. The deal includes an opt-out clause after the first year. Chafin was fantastic in 2021 with the Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics, sporting a 1.83 ERA and 0.93 WHIP while striking out 64, walking 19 and earning five saves in 68 2/3 relief innings. The 31-year-old left-hander also finished with 22 holds in 71 outings. Gregory Soto is already the Tigers ninth-inning man, but Chafin should factor into a late-inning setup role alongside starter-turned-reliever Michael Fulmer. Chafin won't be all that attractive in standard fantasy formats, but he might be worth a flier in holds leagues.
