Alex Wood Won't Be Ready For Start Of Season
6 years agoCincinnati Reds starting pitcher Alex Wood (back) hasn't pitched in a Cactus League game since Feb. 25 and will not be ready for the regular season. However, he did throw a side bullpen session on Monday while recovering from a sore lower back. “No timetable for when he’ll be pitching in the Major Leagues again, but early-to-mid April would be [the target] if everything goes perfect. That’s pretty good news, really, looking at the big picture,” manager David Bell said. “I think that would be pushing a little too hard to get him ready by Opening Day.” Tyler Mahle is a likely candidate to replace the left-hander in the rotation. Wood's move to hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark was bad to begin with, and now he's injured to start the year. The southpaw could be good in certain matchups in deeper leagues and DFS games, but don't expect him to be as good as he was with the Dodgers.
