Alex Speas Called Up By Rangers
1 year agoThe Texas Rangers selected the contract of right-hander Alex Speas from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday and optioned left-hander John King to Round Rock in a corresponding move. The Rangers also designated left-hander Taylor Hearn for assignment. Speas has had to wait a while, but he'll be making his first appearance in the major leagues since being drafted in the second round in 2016. The 25-year-old reliever had a 1.00 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, two saves, 15 walks and 59 strikeouts in 36 relief innings in 28 appearances for Round Rock and Double-A Frisco. Only five of his outings came at Round Rock. Speas won't be on the fantasy radar and might not stick around with Texas for long. He made his big-league debut on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays, recording the hold while striking out three in 1 2/3 innings.
