Alex Reyes Has Been Dominating In Closer Role
4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals closer Alex Reyes has been given every save opportunity -- he's 3-for-3 so far -- over relievers Jordan Hicks and Giovanny Gallegos so far this year. Reyes is reaching 100 mph with his fastball and hasn't allowed more than one hit on any of his pitches. The right-hander is expected to throw around 100 innings of relief this year, with the Cardinals planning on using him in the rotation next season. Reyes is expected to serve as the ninth-inning man for the first couple months in 2021, with Hicks taking over the closer's role in late spring or early summer. Reyes has been a draft-day steal/waiver-wire gem, but that value isn't expected to last for all of 2021. For now, keep enjoying his dominance. Hicks isn't a bad stash for those that have the room, though.
