Alex Colome To Be Moved Into Lower-Leverage Role
4 years agoMinnesota Twins relief pitcher Alex Colome will be utilized in a lower-leverage role moving forward, per manager Rocco Baldelli. Colome has seen the majority of save chances for the Twins but has really struggled lately, blowing each of his last two opportunities and allowing a walk-off homer during Monday's game. Baldelli said that he spoke to Colome earlier about situations where the veteran reliever can come in as the team attempts to get him back on track. The former White Sox closer is sporting a 6.75 ERA with some alarming Statcast metrics, particularly his 9.28 expected ERA and 20.7 percent barrel rate. Taylor Rogers- who has yet to allow an earned run- and Hansel Robles are the next players in line for saves. Rogers is the favorite, given that he saved 30 games for Minnesota back in 2019.
