Alex Colome Signs With Twins
4 years agoThe Minnesota Twins signed free-agent relief pitcher Alex Colome to a one-year deal with a base salary of $5 million on Wednesday. The deal also includes a $5.5 million mutual option for the 2022 season and guarantees Colome $6.25 million. The 32-year-old right-hander was excellent in 2020 with the White Sox with a 0.81 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 12 saves in 13 chances over 22 1/3 innings, and he could step in as the closer in Minnesota after lefty Taylor Rogers and veteran Sergio Romo split the ninth-inning duties last season. Colome has recorded 138 saves since the start of the 2016 season, which ranks him third in baseball behind Kenley Jansen and Edwin Diaz during that span. He has a 2.95 career ERA with 385 strikeouts and 140 walks in 424 innings, but fantasy managers shouldn't be paying for what he did in Chicago last season, especially since saves won't be guaranteed with his new club.
