Alex Clemmey Headlines Prospects Acquired By Nationals
4 months agoThe Washington Nationals acquired left-handed pitching prospect Alex Clemmey, shortstop Rafael Ramirez and third baseman Jose Tena on Monday from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for outfielder Lane Thomas, according to a source. Per MLB Pipeline, Clemmey (No. 8) and Ramirez (No. 22) were among Cleveland's top-30 prospects. Clemmey is only 19 years of age and was taken in the second round last year out of high school. He's gone 1-4 with a 4.67 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in his first 19 professional starts at Single-A Lynchburg this year but does have 97 strikeouts in only 69 1/3 innings. Clemmey is a work in progress but is a high-end lefty arm now in Washington's farm system. He's at least several years from a potential big-league debut. Ramirez has hit just .182 with four home runs, 23 RBI and seven steals in 55 games in 2024 for Lynchburg.
