Adrian Morejon The Favorite For Fifth Rotation Spot?
4 years agoWhile San Diego Padres starting pitcher Adrian Morejon has walked way too many hitters this spring, he's the favorite over left-handers MacKenzie Gore and Ryan Weathers to open as the fifth starter if Dinelson Lamet (elbow) is eased into the start of the regular season. Morejon has already shown that his stuff plays in the majors and has proven himself as a swingman. Gore and Weathers are the team's top two pitching prospects, but they haven't impressed in camp. This could all be a mute point if Lamet proves he's ready by Opening Day, but that may be unlikely since he's yet to make a spring training outing. Morejon, 22, gave up 10 earned runs in 19 1/3 innings while striking out 25 and walking four in nine outings (four starts) for San Diego in 2020. He's not worth drafting in mixed leagues, but he could be a low-priced daily matchup play with upside if he's making starts.
