Adam Wainwright Hopes To Return In 2019
6 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright would like to return to the team next year, and the Cardinals may be up for it. The team has had "general conversations" about his future since the right-hander returned from the disabled list in September, according to general manager Michael Girsch. There is mutual interest from both sides, but there's also no urgency for an agreement. The 37-year-old will be a free agent next month. Wainwright was on the DL for most of this year with right elbow soreness. He made four starts to close out the year and had a 4.48 ERA with 25 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings. Even if Wainwright returns next year with the Cardinals or any other team, he's no guarantee to work as a starter.
