49ers Not Ready To Name Nick Mullens The Week 10 Starter
6 years agoSan Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan isn't ready to anoint quarterback Nick Mullens as the Week 10 starter against the Giants on Monday night after the blowout win over the Raiders on Thursday night. “Yeah, definitely we’ll consider it,” Shanahan said of the possibility of making a permanent switch to Mullens. “Definitely not thinking about that right now, but our whole team played very well. Nick definitely did.” Mullens went 16-for-22 for 262 yards and three touchdowns for a passer rating of 151.9 against a bad Raiders squad. C.J. Beathard was active but didn't start because of a wrist injury that made it tough for him to grip the football. Mullens looked calm, cool and collected while dominating Oakland, but San Fran is in no rush to make a decision with extra time to prepare for their next game. Beathard has shown flashes this year but has struggled in the last few weeks, so we certainly wouldn't be surprised if the Niners stuck with Mullens. In a good matchup with New York, Mullens would be worth a start in two-QB leagues if he gets another start.
