49ers Defense May Be Without Jimmie Ward
5 years agoSan Francisco 49ers safety Jimmie Ward (finger) suffered a fractured finger in practice on Wednesday, and his status for Week 1 against the Buccaneers is now in question. The former first-rounder continues to be injury-prone after breaking his forearm the last two years. He also fractured his foot and shoulder earlier in his career. With Ward's status up in the air for the opener, Tarvarius Moore appears to be in line to start, with K'Waun Williams likely to play nickelback. San Fran's defense/special teams unit should be on the waiver wire to begin the year. Ward's likely absence is a boost for Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston and their pass-catchers.
