Offensive tackle Phil Loadholt has let the Vikings front office know that he plans to retire after his eighth NFL season. The 30-year-old right tackle missed the 2015 season after suffering an Achilles tendon injury and was not able to recover to a level that he felt comfortable playing at. Primarily known for his run blocking, Loadholt had been a fixture on an offensive line that had helped Adrian Peterson become one of the most dominant running backs in the NFL. However, Loadholt was expected to compete for a starting position, and potentially a roster spot, and it won't affect the Vikings production much for the upcoming season. The Vikings added Andre Smith and Alex Boone to their line via free agency and drafted Willie Beavers in the first round to help boost an offensive line that struggled during the 2015 season.
