BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 30% of Yahoo leagues
ANALYSIS: Who will be the White Sox closer in 2018? This was one of the big unknowns through the offseason, as many speculated that young relievers Nate Jones or Juan Minaya would get a chance. Once Joakim Soria was traded to the Sox in January, GM Rick Hahn said it would "provide us with veteran depth and enhanced flexibility." The team doesn't figure to contend in 2018, but they decided to hand the closer reigns over to Soria, who has registered two saves in the first five games. While the sample size can't get much smaller, they've been two clean innings of work and he has struck out three of the six batters faced.
While Soria only closed one game in each of the last two seasons as a setup man in Kansas City, he's kept a K/BB over 3.0 in three of the last four seasons and has maintained a SIERA under 3.50 in all but one of his 10 Major League seasons. He may not be the shutdown closer he once was early in his career, but Soria has a fairly firm grasp on the job and the 34-year-old looks like he has plenty of gas left in the tank. Fantasy owners must not have much faith in him, seeing as how he's owned in less than a third of all leagues. If you're in need of saves (who isn't?) then he could be a more reliable source than hotter waiver adds like Keone Kela.
