Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet Injury Update
Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III (groin) has not yet returned to training camp practice. Meanwhile, rookie Zach Charbonnet (shoulder) has returned after missing only three practices. The Seahawks are going to take it slowly with Walker, who figures to lead the backfield in touches in 2023 as long as he's healthy.
Head coach Pete Carroll called Walker week-to-week on Monday. Walker and Charbonnet will be used in tandem at times this year, but Walker deserves the first crack after looking good in his rookie season in 2022 after Rashaad Penny went down with a season-ending leg injury. The 22-year-old averaged 18.6 carries on 4.4 yards per carry to close things out and should be viewed as a solid RB2 as long as he's ready to play in Week 1.
Javonte Williams Injury Update
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton said he plans to play running back Javonte Williams (knee) in the preseason, likely for the second game. Williams suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 4 last year in which he suffered ACL, LCL and MCL damage.
However, his rehab has gone as good as could be expected, and he has already been cleared for full contact at training camp. Barring a setback, Williams should be ready to go for Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders, but we'll see how much Denver plans to ease him into his regular workload. Samaje Perine is fully capable of handling a larger role early in the season. As long as Williams continues to look good and stay healthy in the preseason, his fantasy ADP is going to skyrocket up.
Miles Sanders Injury Update
Carolina Panthers running back Miles Sanders was unable to finish Saturday's practice due to an undisclosed injury. Head coach Frank Reich said Sanders tweaked something and was held out as a precaution. It doesn't sound like a significant issue, so fantasy managers shouldn't worry about Sanders missing time.
The Panthers gave Sanders a four-year deal during the offseason. The expectation is that the 28-year-old is going to have a significant role in the backfield next season. He might be able to flirt with RB1 value, but it depends on his role.
De'Von Achane Injury Update
Miami Dolphins rookie running back De'Von Achane (undisclosed) did not practice at training camp on Saturday and appears to be walking very gingerly. He is doing some rehab work on the side. It remains to be seen what exactly Achane is dealing with, but consider him day-to-day for now. The 21-year-old is pretty undersized at his position, but he impressed the coaching staff during offseason workouts with his explosiveness out of the backfield.
The third-round selection will have his work cut out for him as he competes for touches in his first NFL season behind Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. A relevant role in Miami's backfield will be even harder to come by if the Dolphins sign free-agent RB Dalvin Cook. Achane is worth a late-round flier in fantasy drafts for his big-play ability in PPR leagues or as a handcuff for Mostert/Wilson.
Elijah Mitchell Injury Update
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell is dealing with an abductor strain and was given a one-week timeline to return on Thursday by head coach Kyle Shanahan. Mitchell is no stranger to injuries early in his NFL career, but this one shouldn't put him in danger of not being ready for Week 1 of the regular season early in September.
The 25-year-old lost most of his fantasy appeal once the Niners traded for do-it-all back Christian McCaffrey in 2022, but when healthy, he should still be CMC's direct backup and complement in San Fran's backfield. Jordan Mason and Tyrion Davis-Price will see more work in training camp while Mitchell is out. Mitchell is an RB4/flex option and handcuff for those that draft McCaffrey in fantasy leagues.
Keaontay Ingram Injury Update
Arizona Cardinals running back Keaontay Ingram has not been practicing of late at training camp due to an undisclosed injury. The Cardinals are unlikely to use starter James Conner much, if at all, during the preseason, so Arizona added to their running back depth on Friday by signing veteran Marlon Mack.
Outside of Conner and Ingram, the Cardinals lack experience with names like Corey Clement, Ty'Son Williams and rookie Emari Demercado in the backfield. Ingram, 23, is a former sixth-rounder from last year. He saw only 27 carries in his first year in the NFL in 2022 and ran for 60 yards and one touchdown in 12 games (zero starts). Ingram won't be worth drafting in standard-sized leagues, but he'll become a popular waiver-wire pickup if Conner misses time with injury in 2023 due to Arizona's lack of depth behind Conner.
