Nick Chubb Injury Update
Chubb suffered a severe knee injury during the first half of Monday's loss to the Steelers. He was carted to the locker room, ruled out, and taken the hospital for further evaluation. The star running back has since been released from the hospital, but head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed everyone's fears postgame: Chubb will require season-ending surgery. It's a devastating blow for one of the most talented running backs in all of football, and we can only hope he'll be back at full strength by Week 1 next year. Jerome Ford will operate as Cleveland's lead back, though the Browns have been linked to Kareem Hunt and Cam Akers.
Austin Ekeler Injury Update
Chargers head coach Brandon Staley said that there's "no timetable" for Ekeler (ankle) to return. This comment makes it sound like the star running back is a longshot to play in Week 3, leaving Joshua Kelley as the lead back again. Kelley struggled last Sunday, but that came against a very stout Titans run defense. Perhaps the Vikings represent a less daunting matchup.
Saquon Barkley Injury Update
Giants head coach Brian Daboll refused to rule out Barkley (ankle) for Week 3 on Tuesday. This was a bit of a surprise after reports surfaced Monday alleging that Barkley would miss roughly three weeks. While Daboll is leaving the door open for the star running back to play against the Giants on a short week, it seems very unlikely, especially after he didn't practice Tuesday.
David Montgomery Injury Update
Montgomery (thigh) exited Sunday's game versus the Seahawks and was unable to return. At this point, the team believes he avoided a serious injury and is evaluating him on a day-to-day basis. Fantasy managers should prepare for Jahmyr Gibbs to operate as Detroit's lead back versus the Falcons in Week 3.
Jamaal Williams Injury Update
Williams (hamstring) exited Monday's game versus the Panthers and was unable to return. We don't have an update on his status coming out of Week 2, though it looks like there's at least a chance the Saints will be forced to start Tony Jones Jr. at running back next Sunday.
Chase Edmonds Injury Update
Edmonds (knee) was diagnosed with a Grade 2 MCL sprain and is expected to miss four to six weeks. He will likely land on short-term injured reserve, leading to more snaps for rookie Sean Tucker.
Salvon Ahmed Injury Update
Ahmed (groin) exited Sunday's game, but head coach Mike McDaniel told the media that Miami's backup running back does not have a muscle tear. It remains to be seen whether he'll be able to play in Week 3. If he can't suit up, rookie De'Von Achane will back up Raheem Mostert.
