Noah Syndergaard 2022 Player Outlook: Boom-or-Bust Option With New Team
3 years agoNoah Syndergaard signed a one-year, $21 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels during the offseason. The 29-year-old has missed two full seasons after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March of 2020. He made two appearances in 2021, surrendering two earned runs while striking out two over two innings. "Thor" has plenty of upside after owning a career 3.32 ERA and a strong 26.4 K%. The hard-throwing right-hander is a strikeout machine, and the Angels paid a premium to see if the former New York Met can recapture his pre-injury form. The 29-year-old is expected to slot second in the Halos' starting rotation behind two-way star Shohei Ohtani. ATC projects Syndergaard with an 8-8 record, nine quality starts, 4.41 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 122 strikeouts in 2022. According to Rotoballer's Expected Draft Values, ATC's projections make Syndergaard below fair value at his ADP of 201. The 29-year-old is a boom-or-bust fantasy option in 2022.
