DK Metcalf May Wait To Sign Extension
3 years agoThe Seattle Seahawks have $36.4 million in salary cap space in 2022, which is the eighth most in the league, according to OvertheCap.com. The biggest contract they're likely to give out is to wide receiver DK Metcalf. He's eligible for an extension after playing the third season of his four-year rookie deal. Pro Football Focus projects Metcalf being worth a four-year, $84 million deal, or $21 million per season. It would be the third-highest deal given to a pass-catcher in terms of average value. The Seahawks and Metcalf probably won't get into serious talks until late spring or summer, and he could wait even longer with several other receivers in his draft class eligible for new contracts. Metcalf has said he'd like to stay in Seattle, but he's unlikely to give them a hometown discount. The 24-year-old had a down year compared to 2020, but it likely had something to do with a foot injury that required offseason surgery and playing three games without quarterback Russell Wilson. Metcalf should bounce back in 2022 and is one of the NFL's best and most physical receivers.
