Joe Musgrove 2022 Player Outlook: A Strong SP2 Option After Breakout Season

He was traded from the Pirates to the Padres as part of a three-player deal during the 2021 off-season. The 29-year-old posted career-highs in ERA, strikeouts, and innings pitched last year. He owned an 11-9 record, 3.18 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 3.65 FIP, 25.9 K%, and a 203:54 K: BB over 181 1/3 innings. Musgrove increased his exit velocity from 85.1 in 2020 to 87.9 while relying on his slider 27.7% and curveball 23.8% from his pitching arsenal. The right-hander can rack up strikeouts with a 27.1 K% and becomes a strong SP2 for fantasy managers in future 2022 fantasy drafts. Musgrove broke out in 2021 and will pitch for a new contract as the former Pirate is a free agent after the 2022 season. Steamer projections have Musgrove 182 innings pitch, 25.9K%, 7.0 BB%, 45.0 GB%, 3.62 ERA, and a 3.65 FIP.
