Frankie Montas 2022 Player Outlook: Elite Splitter Led To Breakout Season, Top-25 Starter With The Upside For More
3 years agoOakland Athletics pitcher Frankie Montas had a career year in 2021, posting a 13-9 record, a 3.37 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 207:57 K: BB over 187 innings. He also held an impressive 10.0 K/9, 14.1 swinging strike percentage, and his fastball averaged 96.4 MPH. Montas finished the season strong by being named the AL Pitcher of the Month in September. The 28-year-old has an elite splitter, which he used 33.6% of the time that helped improve his ERA from 4.72 (April-June) to 2.65 (July-August). His splitter had a whiff rate of 51.4% and put away 26.4% of hitters. Montas is expected to be drafted as a top-25 starter in upcoming 2022 fantasy baseball drafts.
