Added Weight Responsible For Brandon Aiyuk's Poor Start?
3 years agoSan Francisco 49ers second-year wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk said he put on extra weight in the offseason in an effort to get stronger, and head coach Kyle Shanahan said that "possibly" is the reason for the pass-catcher's slow start in 2021. Aiyuk led the team in receiving in his rookie year and averaged 62 yards a game. He's averaging just 16 yards a game in 2021 and caught his only target for six yards in last Sunday night's loss to the Indianapolis Colts. In six games this year, the 23-year-old has just nine receptions (16 targets) for 96 yards and one touchdown. The Chicago Bears, the Niners Week 8 opponent, have allowed the eighth-most fantasy points per game to receivers in the last three weeks, but Aiyuk has been dropped already in a lot of 12-team leagues.
